In partnership with Nomad Magazine Africa, Angama Foundation is launching an exciting new photography competition that aims to showcase Africa’s most iconic game reserve with a cash prize of $10,000 and the opportunity to be crowned ‘The Greatest Maasai Mara Photographer of the Year 2018.’
In addition to the cash prize, the overall winner will win an all-inclusive five-night safari at Angama Mara, one of the Mara’s most luxurious safari lodges, and which was recently named the Top Outdoor Adventure Hotel at the annual 2017 Traveler’s Choice Hotel Awards. The lodge boasts outstanding game viewing year-long in the Mara Triangle.
To enter, photographers are required to have shot in the Mara within the past twelve months and each entry carries a $20 submission fee if paid by card, and Ksh 1,000 if paid by Mpesa, which will be donated in full to the Angama Foundation or conservation partners with a successful track record in the area. Ten monthly winners, whose entries will be published in Nomad, East Africa’s leading travel magazine, will go forward as finalists for the $10,000 prize, which will be announced before December 25, 2018. The safari guide working with the overall winner will take home a Suzuki Maruti Gypsy.
An experienced and respected panel of judges will select the winning images. They are Art Wolfe, an American award-winning photographer whose career spans five decades; Federico Veronesi, a professional wildlife photographer; and Adam Bannister, a South African filmmaker and photographer based at Angama. Each entry will be judged based on the overall impression and visual impact, technical difficulty, execution and originality, humour and creativity.
